Panama is working hard to build diverse citizenship in order to create an innovative culture and opportunities for both local and international people. For that reason, the Panamanian government has made residence and passport qualification one of the easiest in the world.

For example, you don’t have to spend any time in the country to keep your residency, apart from renewing your visa every two years and after 5 years you are eligible to apply for a passport. So how does it work? The two most popular visa residency programs are: Friendly Nations Visa and the Panamanian Retirement Visa. The Friendly Nations Visa program makes it easy for citizens of 50 countries to get residency.

The process is simple and relatively fast. You need to start a business and deposit $5,000 into a local bank account which can be withdrawn immediately after residence is granted. Retirees on the other hand can apply for residency via the Panamanian Retirement Visa program. For that you have to be able to prove a pension of at least $1,000 for each spouse or $750 if you buy a property in Panama worth of at least $100,000. Kids under 18 (or up to 25 if still full time student) can also be included in the application with an additional pension amount of $250.
