As Rudy reaches the remarkable 30-day milestone in the underwater habitat, CEO Grant Romundt took the opportunity to check in and reflect on the journey so far.
Rudiger Koch, Chief Engineer of Ocean Builders, is attempting to break the world record for the longest continuous stay underwater in a fixed habitat, a target of 120 days.
This mission is more than a feat of endurance; it’s an exploration into the potential of long-term underwater living and a showcase of the innovative SeaPods. In a recent conversation, Grant asked Rudy, “How has your experience been so far? Looking back on these 30 days, what are your reflections, and what are you looking forward to?”
Here’s what Rudy had to say:
“It’s been very exciting, with so many new things to experience. I’ve never lived underwater for this long, so there’s a lot to discover, and I really enjoy that. I’m looking forward to the next 30 days and hope they’ll bring the same sense of excitement.”
Rudy reflected on how he stays engaged and productive, sharing, “I’m not getting bored at all. I have plenty of work to keep me occupied, and now I finally have the time to do it, or at least I hope so. Every day is actually becoming more comfortable as we keep upgrading my setup, which helps a lot. It’s the small things that bring my experience closer to a normal life. For instance, today I received new cycling shoes, they’re fantastic! They clip into the pedals, making things more convenient.”
It’s clear to us that it’s the small things that make the biggest difference, bringing unexpected joy to life, even while living underwater. From everyday comforts to thoughtful upgrades, these small touches transform the experience, helping to create a sense of normalcy and happiness in this unique environment.
We wish Rudy all the best as he continues his journey under the sea. We look forward to seeing how he adapts and discovers new aspects of underwater living over the coming months. Stay tuned for more updates as Rudy pushes the boundaries of what’s possible below the surface!
