Since the SeaPods will be in the ocean, there is not a solid foundation that keeps the home permanently still. The ocean is an ever-changing environment and keeping things balanced in an ever-changing environment is a crucial part of keeping the home safe. Another factor about a floating home is that the weight will be…

Things are moving along nicely in the EcoPod as we get closer to the launch! The kitchen cabinets that we were working on recently are finally being installed in the Pod. As you can see, there is a ton of cabinet space in the kitchen, in fact, there is more storage space in the EcoPod…

Grant is back inside the factory to give us a look at part of the process of building the Wazebo floor. Like a lot of aspects of the Pods, these floor sections are made out of fiberglass that is formed in molds. The mold makes one-quarter of the floor at a time and since the…

Grant is back on the EcoPod to give us a quick look at the living room cabinets and how they will be laid out. Storage space is always a problem in small homes so we wanted to make sure that this wouldn’t be a sacrifice that you have to make to live on the water…

We are getting the flashing installed on the center dock. We made 8 of these fiberglass pieces that will go around the entire circumference of the dock. We had to measure and then drill holes in the flashing so that it would slide over the posts for the railing. The purpose of the flashing is to…

Sometimes the small details can make a huge difference, and that is definitely the case with this step. We will be using these step covers in the spiral staircase that goes to the living area of the Pod and then up to the roof level. The step itself is made of fiberglass and has small groves…

It soon will be time for showers with a star’s view! We’ve done quite some work on the skylight window and it’s ready for shipping. When we designed the Pods, we didn’t know whether we would build a roof access or not. But very soon it appeared that YES, we really needed that. For many…

It was a big moment for the Ocean Builders’ team when we pulled out the Pod’ spar structure from the water. How did the steel structure withstood one year in sea water? From being anxious about the outcome, we became very happy about how the outcome as the “organic concrete” (as we call the calcium…

Let’s get to the roof! Specifically, let’s discuss what we used to protect the roof and what choices we had: organic coating Vs. foam insulation. Grant settled on the roof with coating specialist to benefit from his technical expertise on this topic. By definition, roofs get exposed to everything nature can possibly throw at. Sun,…

“Welcome home”! That’s what we will say…once we will be done with the Pods’ entrance. We’re not there yet, but we are definitely making great progress so it should come sooner than later. We are now working on the center dock, or in other words, what will become the porch of your future home. Specifically,…

While Ocean Builders is advocating for minimalism as a way to embrace a more sustainable lifestyle, we all need storage! Thus, we are designing and building all the Pods cabinetry in-house to ensure the best fit.The tiny house movement is very popular around the world as a way to reduce our possessions, and our Pods…

It’s “Crunch” time for the wazebo benches! We are very excited to put the final touch on these key elements of our Pods for one of their most important uses: relaxing. But for now, we only have a few days left before launch on the water! If you follow our promising progress, you know that…

A night at sea is nearly a reality as we are making great progress in the bedroom’s construction. Soon, we will launch it in the water and we are all hoping that Grant will let us enjoy a night in the Pod!Do you remember when around that time last year we were taking you on…

An important feature of every home is the flooring. We don’t often realize that because it is just there, but you know how we realize how important our toes are once we break them? That’s why we put so much care into installing the Pod’s flooring carefully. We had experience in installing this type of…

August 2021: a team of visionary Ocean Builders achieved a major milestone by putting in the water the test tripod frame that will be supporting our futuristic floating homes. We then took it for a spin! A little bit more than a year later, we pulled it out for inspection. Spoiler alert, we are thrilled…

Important steps are following each other for everyone here at Ocean Builders to get closer to the first Pod to hit the water. Today, we want to check how the steel structure evolved since we submerged it a little more than a year ago. It’s a heavy-lifting day for Ocean Builder as we are pulling…

We are making some good progress on the dock and Grant is back to tell us a little bit about it. This dock is pretty big, at about 3×8 meters. The structure of the dock is concrete but the buoyancy comes from the core which will be mostly foam. We have a large steel mold…

Today is the big day! It’s time to finally put the SeaPod Eco on the water. This is not an easy job and requires a bit of teamwork but that’s nothing new for the Ocean Builders crew. We only get one chance to do this right so we are going to take our time and…

We have a quick update from Richard about the progress on our concrete dock. The crew is mixing all of the concrete by hand and then pouring and smoothing everything out. This concrete mix has four additives that provide different advantages over normal concrete so that it will last longer and be stronger. You can…

Now that the sliding windows are installed, it’s time to get the flat patio windows installed on the EcoPod prototype. These windows will be the door that goes between the kitchen area and the back patio and they will slide open to create a large open-air room. This is the first time that we have…

The crew has been working on getting the first of the EcoPod windows installed. We recently got the window frames installed and we couldn’t wait to get the first panes in place. These windows match the curvature of the home and slide open to provide fresh air, great views, and a very open feeling to…

The EcoPod is all painted and ready to go. We have the window frames installed and now it is time to get it mounted on the TriPod base that we put into the water. Today we are taking care of a few things that we want to do before the Pod goes on the water.Once…

We are getting this TriPod base prepared for launch and we are coming down to the final steps to get everything good to go. One of the final steps is to prepare the Pod support rests. The actual Pod will slide over the top of this center spar and most of the weight will rest…

Safety is always #1 for the Ocean Builders crew and when it comes to big projects like mounting the EcoPod onto the floating TriPod, the more safety the better. This is not the most simple thing that we will do. The lift that we use to raise the EcoPod up and over the TriPod can only…

We are getting down to the nitty-gritty on the floating spar. The painting continues! We have all of the protective paint and white paint applied and now the crew is finishing up the blue paint on the outriggers. We started with protective paint to prevent corrosion on the surface, but it doesn’t look great so…

Paint, paint, paint!!! We have had lots of painting going on at the factory during these last few days. We have completed most of the exterior finishing work on the EcoPod and begun to paint the outside. We are using paint guns to spray on even layers of paint to the entire exterior of the…

Grant has another factory update – the mold for the Wazebo seating area is almost ready to go! We built the plug and then used that to make this mold. Once this mold is ready, we can take it off of the plug and do the finishing work needed to get it finished. We can…

Our big global launch event is coming up very soon and we are working hard to get everything ready. One of the recent accomplishments by our team was to get the spiral staircase inside of the center spar installed and painted. This spiral staircase will serve as the main entry point into the Pods. The…
