The American-Made Power at Sea Prize seeks new, innovative, and feasible marine energy concepts that can fulfill Powering the Blue Economy initiatives.
This includes supporting offshore industries, science, and security activities, and meeting the energy and water needs of coastal and rural island communities.
Entering this competition with WITT Energy as Team Ocean Energy Builders, marks our initial step toward achieving a shared vision for a more sustainable world. At Ocean Builders, we are dedicated to building floating homes that will produce their own food and water, powered entirely by 100% green energy resources. This partnership embodies our commitment to innovative, eco-friendly living solutions that benefit both people and the planet.
Fostering Innovation and Sustainability
The Power at Sea Prize is a proving ground for ideas that have not yet had the opportunity to flourish. It is structured to ensure that competitors end the prize with concepts, materials, and media collateral that position them for future technology development. By fostering innovation, the prize seeks to bring groundbreaking marine energy solutions to life.
Application and Challenge Area
Identification of Application: The relevant application for this project is offshore living, specifically focusing on floating homes being developed by Ocean Builders. These floating homes, called SeaPods, are designed to be off-grid, sustainable, and reliant on renewable energy sources, primarily solar power.
Challenge Area Addressed: The specific challenge area is “Hybridization with Other Renewable Energy Resources.” Ocean Builders’ floating homes require a reliable power source during periods when solar power is insufficient, such as during extended cloudy days or at night.
Proposed Solution
The proposed solution involves integrating WITT Energy’s patented energy conversion technology into a new-style buoy that can tune wave energy to the characteristics of the WITT system. This will enable complex motion in all six degrees to turn a flywheel in one direction and generate electrical power continuously. This system will work in harmony with other renewable energy products, providing a top-up power solution for Ocean Builders’ floating homes.
Prize Structure
The Power at Sea Prize is divided into two phases: CONCEPT and DEVELOP. Winners will receive direct support, including training, testing assets, and new connections to accelerate the advancement of concepts into real prototypes. The Concept phase winners will be announced this month, August 2024, and the Development phase winners in June 2025.
We are excited about the possibilities that the Power at Sea Prize offers. With innovative solutions like WITT Energy’s technology, we are one step closer to revolutionizing sustainable ocean living.
Stay tuned as we continue to explore and develop these groundbreaking technologies!
