One of the most common questions we get is about security: Do you feel safe up there? Do you worry about pirates or break-ins?
While security is always a concern, living on a SeaPod offers unique advantages that significantly mitigate these risks.
Elevated Design for Enhanced Security
The SeaPod is anchored in a bay filled with boats at water level, which can be easy targets since someone can simply pull up and hop on. However, the SeaPod’s design is fundamentally different. The house is elevated about three meters above the water line, and the railing sits around six meters up. This elevation makes climbing up from a boat to the SeaPod quite challenging.
Robust Security Features
In addition to its elevated position, the SeaPod is equipped with its main door at water level made of strong polycarbonate material. This door is curved and incredibly tough, making it virtually impossible to jam open. We are also in the process of installing a new, solid security door. Once in place, this door will provide even greater protection, further reducing the likelihood of break-ins.
Vigilance and Surveillance
Even on land, if you leave your door open, you’re at more risk due to high foot traffic. Here, in the SeaPod, we have the advantage of visibility. We can see people coming from a mile away—literally. We keep an eye out for tourists and always stay vigilant. Additionally, we have security cameras installed, adding another layer of security.
The sea itself acts as a natural barrier around our home, enhancing our sense of privacy and security. This water barrier makes unauthorized access more difficult compared to land-based homes.
With these robust security measures and natural advantages, living on a SeaPod feels much safer than living on land. The combination of elevated design, strong materials, vigilant monitoring, and the natural moat provides a secure living environment. So, when it comes to security on a SeaPod, I feel safe. We have yet to see pirates, despite being in the Caribbean!
