At Ocean Builders, we’ve taken on the challenge of developing our own LED controllers, and here’s why.

The existing options on the market simply don’t meet our specific needs.

From the ground up, SeaPods are built with marine-grade components that are not only durable but also integrate seamlessly into our cutting-edge home automation system. The LED controllers are no exception.

Why Develop Our Own LED Controllers?

The marine environment poses unique challenges. Off-the-shelf LED controllers don’t hold up, they aren’t EMF-free, lack the durability needed for 24/7 operation, and most importantly, they’re incompatible with our 48V power system. We’re building custom controllers that power LED strips up to 50 meters long without any dimming over distance. And, by creating our own, we can significantly reduce costs, as each SeaPod requires a large number of controllers.

Why Not Use Store-Bought LED Controllers?

Most commercially available controllers fall short in a marine setting. They corrode quickly, generate excessive EMF, and are designed for much lower voltages. Additionally, standard LED strips are limited to just 5-10 meters, which is not enough for our expansive lighting installations. For SeaPods, we need a robust solution that can handle long strips and integrate into a 48V system, something the market just doesn’t offer.

How Does Our Controller Work?

Our custom-built controllers are already up and running in Alpha Blue, providing a fully automated and seamless lighting experience. Integrated into our smart home system, users can control the lighting via the app or manually using switches. This flexibility ensures a perfect balance of tech-forward innovation and user-friendly operation.

What Goes Into Developing these Controllers?

Building a controller like this isn’t easy, it’s a multidisciplinary effort. We’ve brought together experts in CAD design, PCB layout, electronic engineering, and software/firmware programming. Every element has been engineered from scratch to meet the rigorous demands of the SeaPods and other marine environments.

Who Benefits From These Controllers?

While the primary focus is the SeaPods, these controllers could easily be adapted for other marine vessels requiring high-performance lighting solutions. Our goal is to create durable, high-tech systems that stand the test of time in challenging marine conditions.

Where Will These Controllers Be Used?

These controllers will be used across all the SeaPods, providing reliable and efficient lighting solutions. Beyond the SeaPods, they have potential applications in other marine environments, ensuring they can withstand the tough conditions of life on the water.

What’s Next?

We’ve finished development and are now moving into full-scale production. These controllers are being manufactured for multiple SeaPods, marking an exciting achievement in the SeaPod journey toward revolutionizing ocean living.
