Discovering Panama (Starfish In San Blas) Part 3

Less than 1 minute Reading TIme: Minutes

Grant’s day of adventure has led him into an area in the San Blas that is called a “Natural Bath” due to the warm, shallow, and calm waters. The water is only about waist deep so Grant can easily stand here with his toes in the sand.

One of the coolest things about this tropical water that is crystal clear and shallow is that there is quite a bit of sea life and it is easy to see. Since the water is only about one meter deep, it is easy to spot different creatures in the underwater world.

One of those creatures that Grant got to see was starfish. There are plenty of them hanging out on the seafloor doing their best to blend in and look like a rock. While their camouflage works well against their natural predators, people can instantly recognize them due to their unique shape.

These starfish can grow up to about 20 inches in diameter and weigh more than 10 pounds, but they can be sensitive and best left underwater. Grant was able to appreciate this one and many other starfish in their natural habitat.

We can’t decide which is better, the beautiful scenes above the water or the lively world below it… So let’s just call it a tie and we can appreciate both!
