Keeping with the theme of automating the simple tasks in the SeaPod, the front door will be able to easily be locked and unlocked through the SeaPod home automation app. We want coming home to be simple and easy so we made a system that will allow you to unlock your front door with the tap of a button in the app – no more fumbling for keys in the dark.
Omer has a quick demonstration to show you how everything will work. The app shows the status of the door and lock. It gives you the option to lock or unlock the lock and also shows you if the door is open or closed. If you tap the “unlock” button then the door will unlock and you can open it. When the door is open, the sensor can see that so it relays that message and the app shows that the door is open.
Controlling everything is the main door controller. This is the brain of the operation and communicates between the lock, sensor, and the app. We have marine-grade IP66 connections for the power-over-ethernet connection which allows us to supply power and data through the same cable and keep everything protected from water or corrosion.
We needed to have a failsafe in case the automatic system was not working so you can use a normal key to unlock the door if you need to manually override the automation for any reason. That way, even if there is no power or if something fails, you can still unlock or lock your SeaPod from the inside or the outside.
While this isn’t a “necessary” feature, we think it will make life a lot easier. If you have a bunch of groceries that you need to carry into your home, you can unlock the house from your boat before you load up your arms with groceries. That way you won’t need to set something down to find your keys. Also, if you are upstairs in the home and a friend is coming by, you can unlock the door for them without having to stop what you are doing and go downstairs to open it. You could even unlock the door without getting out of bed.
Another benefit of this system is that it can be operated from anywhere as long as you have your cell phone and it is connected to the internet. We have all had that feeling of not being 100% sure if we locked the door but not being able to go back and check. Well with this system you can just open up your app and see if the door is locked or not, and if you need to lock or unlock it, you can do it from anywhere in the world as long as you have an internet connection.
