Ocean Builders T-Shirt
Our official T-Shirt.
Up until now, the interior of the SeaPod prototype has just had the inner surface from the mold process. Of course, we needed to add the interior walls and so far, that process has been moving along nicely. The SeaPod is curvy and these walls are no different. These walls are made of a honeycomb […]
Grant is here to give us a little update about the shower in the EcoPod. You can see in the video below that Grant is standing in the shower, or at least the area that will become the shower. We have the main walls up now so we can see the layout of how things […]
We want to create a refreshing, relaxing, and healthy lifestyle on the water. Unfortunately, that comes with some inherent risks. Having your “front yard” be water is naturally going to have certain risks that homes on land don’t face. With as much time as we hope everyone will spend enjoying the water, we need to […]
We have another quick factory update about the beginning of the process of building a new home for our steel department. The steel department does all of the steel work to build the floating TriPod bases, spars, and any other metal work that needs to be done. We started out with everyone working inside the […]
The first ceiling panel has been installed in the EcoPod! We completed the ceiling support grid and have now moved on to getting the panels installed. This ceiling ended up being almost exactly three meters tall and we are very happy with how roomy and open everything feels. It will take us about a week […]
We recently finished up the mold for the hot tub that will sit on one of the side spars of the floating TriPod base if you decide to add it. It is designed to have cushions around the edge to sit and then the hot tub itself will be in the middle. We won’t cover […]
This is a quick video showing how we install the cross braces that will give a little extra support and strength between the outriggers and the center spar on our floating TriPod base. The brace itself is made from a simple steel tube. We then have a template that we place on the tube to […]
This outer ring for the EcoPod roof is made up of 28 smaller sections which are then put together into four pieces made up of seven sections each. These smaller sections are much easier to manufacture than a larger section so this process worked out pretty well. We assembled all of the pieces on the […]
Part 2 of our process to get the EcoPod roof put together went fairly smoothly with only a few expected difficulties. Installing these roof sections was not easy and they take quite a bit of work to get properly fitted together, but we got the job done at the end of the day. Placing this […]
Upgrade your pod reservation and be one of the first to receive your customized pod. As soon as this upgrade is done you will receive an email with a link to schedule a pod customization appointment with an Ocean Builders representative.
We have had a spiral staircase here at the factory for about a year and a half that we use to get to the second level of our offices. We wanted to build this staircase to the exact dimensions that we will be using in the spar of our homes so that we could test […]
Biodiversity AI is one of the coolest emerging technologies that we are really excited about. This tech will allow us to view and monitor the biodiversity in the area so that we can see how things change and grow over time. The AI will be able to identify species that are in the area and […]
The SeaPod needed a way to have access to the roof from the inside of the home so we came to the conclusion that a roof hatch would be the best option. Since the SeaPod is designed using curves and circles, we decided to go with a circular roof hatch that is located directly in […]
We are back at the factory with some very exciting news, the roof has been raised! We got the first SeaPod roof lifted and placed on the center spar where it will be mounted. This process took quite a bit of work and cooperation but we are in good shape now. The roof has a […]
One of the challenges when working in the water is water pressure. Water pressure gets higher as you go deeper and can crush structures if they are not properly reinforced to sustain the pressure. Since we want to have the option of an underwater room, we need to be absolutely certain that the structure won’t […]
The SeaPod door has been quite the journey thus far, but we finally have found a good footing and we are making progress toward having these doors in full production. Through vendor changes, design changes, and everything else that we have been battling, we think we have found what we are looking for. The default […]
The SeaPods and EcoPods will be deployed primarily in warm, humid climates like you will find here in Linton Bay, Panama where our factory is. In order to combat the heat from the sun and keep things comfortable inside the home, we wanted to have an air conditioning system that could handle the climate control […]
We recently celebrated Grant’s 50th Birthday and for his birthday, he received a pretty cool gift from his nephew(once-removed), Jaydin. Jaydin spent quite a bit of time building the first SeaPod in Minecraft and surprised Grant with it for his birthday! If you don’t know, Minecraft is a virtual 3D sandbox game where players can […]
Grant has always been a visionary. From a young age he caught onto new technology trends long before they became commonplace.
This fascination with technology began at a young age where he would build electronic circuits from scratch, disassembling and re-assembling household electronics and then at the age of 8 in 1980 he became the first and youngest student in Canada to compete in a science fair with a software program on an early home computer. His passion continued to propel him forward, leading him to be featured in the Globe and Mail newspaper as having the most advanced mobile paperless office in Canada in 1995 complete with being the first retail adopter of VoIP technology in the country.
Fueled by this entrepreneurial spirit, Grant found himself living in a San Francisco tech frat-house alongside one of PayPal’s co-founders. This connection sparked the creation of his own software development company, which boasted a prestigious clientele including billion-dollar giants like Wella Professionals, L’Oreal Professional, and a roster of other beauty industry brand leaders.
By 2016, Grant had outsourced his software company so we was effectively retired upon which he moved into a floating home in Toronto. After living there for 3 1/2 years he conceived a revolutionary idea: an eco-restorative floating smart home unlike anything the world had ever seen. His vision materialized on September 22nd, 2022, with the unveiling of the first model open to the public.
He is currently dedicated to pioneering the technology that will form the foundation of the world’s first floating city – a project that demands not only innovation, but the seamless integration, development, and iteration of groundbreaking technological solutions. Grant’s story is one of relentless pursuit, a testament to the power of imagination and the drive to transform futuristic concepts into tangible realities.

We are very passionate about the environment and building floating homes that are eco-restorative. One of the challenges of building a home at sea is figuring out what to do with the sewage. The easy thing would be just dumping it into the ocean, but that is absolutely not an option for us and we […]
