Grant Romundt Construction deep water seapod
Here we have a look at the master plug for the walls of the SeaPod Eco model. This plug is the exact shape of the final product and will be used to create the production molds which are negative molds. Having the production molds ready to go means that we can start full-speed production of […]
Something is missing from our factory today. But what could it be? “The Pod”, yes indeed! We moved it out to the open and we now have a big empty space ready for the grand opening. Well, “empty & ready” aren’t entirely true for the time being. It was an impressive operation to transport the […]
Here we have a look at the mold for the dinner chairs that will be on the Wazebo. The Wazebo will have a large table in the middle with bench seating around the outside that is perfect for lounging. When you want to sit at the table to eat, we will have these movable chairs […]
Welcome inside our Seapod flagship model, as we are finishing work on the interior of the shell itself. We are really into a “might fit” time right now because there will be differences between this prototype and the production model. We are live from the Pod’s living room where we are putting the last touch […]
Grant is back inside the factory to give us a look at part of the process of building the Wazebo floor. Like a lot of aspects of the Pods, these floor sections are made out of fiberglass that is formed in molds. The mold makes one-quarter of the floor at a time and since the […]
“Welcome home”! That’s what we will say…once we will be done with the Pods’ entrance. We’re not there yet, but we are definitely making great progress so it should come sooner than later. We are now working on the center dock, or in other words, what will become the porch of your future home. Specifically, […]
It’s “Crunch” time for the wazebo benches! We are very excited to put the final touch on these key elements of our Pods for one of their most important uses: relaxing. But for now, we only have a few days left before launch on the water! If you follow our promising progress, you know that […]
We are making some good progress on the dock and Grant is back to tell us a little bit about it. This dock is pretty big, at about 3×8 meters. The structure of the dock is concrete but the buoyancy comes from the core which will be mostly foam. We have a large steel mold […]
Grant has another factory update – the mold for the Wazebo seating area is almost ready to go! We built the plug and then used that to make this mold. Once this mold is ready, we can take it off of the plug and do the finishing work needed to get it finished. We can […]
Up until now, the interior of the SeaPod prototype has just had the inner surface from the mold process. Of course, we needed to add the interior walls and so far, that process has been moving along nicely. The SeaPod is curvy and these walls are no different. These walls are made of a honeycomb […]
We recently finished up the mold for the hot tub that will sit on one of the side spars of the floating TriPod base if you decide to add it. It is designed to have cushions around the edge to sit and then the hot tub itself will be in the middle. We won’t cover […]
This outer ring for the EcoPod roof is made up of 28 smaller sections which are then put together into four pieces made up of seven sections each. These smaller sections are much easier to manufacture than a larger section so this process worked out pretty well. We assembled all of the pieces on the […]
We spent quite a long time producing the prototype molds for the SeaPod here at the factory, in fact, some parts took nearly two years to get right. These prototype molds are what we used to make the first prototype, but they won’t be what we use when the SeaPod goes into full production. We have […]
We have been working on the EcoPod roof for the past few weeks and we are now finishing up production on the final section of the inner disk. The video below shows the process that the crew has to do to release each section from the mold. These 1.3cm fiberglass sections have an extremely tight […]
We are back at the factory for a quick update from Grant about the progress of the EcoPod roof. This will be a functional roof in a few different ways so we are really excited about it. The team has been making quick progress and it is starting to take shape. The roof is going to […]
The SeaPod will have an absolutely massive panoramic window in the living room that will provide stunning views of the outside world. These windows were a serious challenge to design and engineer due to their size and their curved shape, but as with every challenge we have faced, we found a way to make it […]
We have spent the last almost two years designing, building, and perfecting the prototype molds for the SeaPod. These are the molds that we have been using here at the factory to build the first prototype of the SeaPod. The prototype molds also acted as a form of research and development for our production molds […]
The SeaPod door has been quite the journey thus far, but we finally have found a good footing and we are making progress toward having these doors in full production. Through vendor changes, design changes, and everything else that we have been battling, we think we have found what we are looking for. The default […]
Grant has always been a visionary. From a young age he caught onto new technology trends long before they became commonplace.
This fascination with technology began at a young age where he would build electronic circuits from scratch, disassembling and re-assembling household electronics and then at the age of 8 in 1980 he became the first and youngest student in Canada to compete in a science fair with a software program on an early home computer. His passion continued to propel him forward, leading him to be featured in the Globe and Mail newspaper as having the most advanced mobile paperless office in Canada in 1995 complete with being the first retail adopter of VoIP technology in the country.
Fueled by this entrepreneurial spirit, Grant found himself living in a San Francisco tech frat-house alongside one of PayPal’s co-founders. This connection sparked the creation of his own software development company, which boasted a prestigious clientele including billion-dollar giants like Wella Professionals, L’Oreal Professional, and a roster of other beauty industry brand leaders.
By 2016, Grant had outsourced his software company so we was effectively retired upon which he moved into a floating home in Toronto. After living there for 3 1/2 years he conceived a revolutionary idea: an eco-restorative floating smart home unlike anything the world had ever seen. His vision materialized on September 22nd, 2022, with the unveiling of the first model open to the public.
He is currently dedicated to pioneering the technology that will form the foundation of the world’s first floating city – a project that demands not only innovation, but the seamless integration, development, and iteration of groundbreaking technological solutions. Grant’s story is one of relentless pursuit, a testament to the power of imagination and the drive to transform futuristic concepts into tangible realities.
